Can't both 1 offensive player and 1 defensive player share a number? I'm pretty sure a couple numbers were double-used last year. Each team has almost 120 total players overall don't they, with only 100 jersey #s available?
I believe so actually, now that I think about it. Typically it occurs between two players that play in the same game i.e. a QB starter and a 4th string DB. However, if you take into account how many guys are redshirting and out with injury, there are actually extra numbers. Thanks!
Ok, you got me curious. Official rule is only that two of the same number cannot be on the field at the same time. Technically there could be 6 #12, but only one on the field at the same time.
