Another QB leaves

I was actually preparing a different post and saw a news release by BYU:

Cade Cooper is transferring

I don't think anyone saw this coming. Cooper has to sit out a year due to injury anyways (which would have been required regardless of injury if he transfers to a D1 School.)

Cooper lost the starting job to Max Hall in spring and suffered a season ending injury. Brenden Gaskins will likely be Hall's back up this season unless Jason Munns is able to overcome him.

My 3 Cents: I'm literally in shock. Cooper is a local guy and a BYU fan, but he wants to see the field. Next year all three quarterbacks would have been Juniors and Cooper would have had a long way to go to ever start a game. It is sad, I think everyone was excited he was here. I can't help wonder if he realized he was too far behind the curve or didn't feel he got a fair shake like Bower.

Best of luck to Cade wherever he ends up!

This boy has a history of putting himself before his team. As I understand it- He lived in the Lone Peak area but enroled at Lehi because he would not be the starter at Lone Peak (Perhaps also he did not want to be an option QB) Then his senior year he transfered to Timpview. Three high schools in four years and three colleges in three years I think I see a pattern here.

Give him a break. He wants to play and he's not in the best situation to do so and thats why he's going to another place. Simple enough. No judgments about him being selfish are needed from anyone on a random website. Sure we'd all like to think we're "team guys" and we'd "place the team before ourselves", but we're all more selfish than we'd like to admit. He's got to do whats best for him just like you have to do whats best for you. Plus you play football to play, not to be a backup and if you have a better opportunity to play somewhere else then by all means you should take it. And chances are, whats best for him will be best for the team - maybe not BYU but whatever team he chooses. He'll be more valuable an asset on a different team as the starter than he would have been as the back up at BYU. In regards to the article he wouldn't have had to sit out a year because he graduated from Snow College. He would have been eligible to play this year if not for the injury.

Just realized what you meant by him sitting out a year which is correct. He will have to sit out a year if he transfers to another D1 school.

My 3 Cents-

You are doing a wonderful job with your site so I have a suggestion and do not know where to initiate it other than here. Why not add the service of updating us on the graduates that are now either on an NFL team or are trying out for one: I beleive that last years graduates are in the following situations:

BYU Football Players 2006:
Draft:
1. John Beck: 2nd Round (8/40: Miami Dolphins
Signed or invited after the draft:
Curtis Brown RB: Oakland Raiders
FREE-AGENT ROSTER
Player Pos NFL Team
1. Curtis Brown RB Cleveland Browns
2. Dan Coats TE Cincinnati Bengals
3. Zac Collie WR Philadelphia Eagles
4. Jonny Harline TE Indianapolis Colts
5. Cameron Jensen LB Seattle Seahawks
6. Eddie Keele OL Oakland Raiders
7. Jake Kuresa OL New Orleans Saints
8. Aaron Wagner LB New York Jets

You could even expand it from last years players and update us on all BYU football players who are in the NFL. Maybe this is too time consumning and if it is why not recruit someone to help you.
